Creating a Temporary Tag Registration

This guide is specific to Florida’s Electronic Temporary Registration (ETR) system. To use this feature, you must be registered and verified as a licensed Florida auto dealer. For information on becoming verified, refer to Verifying Dealer License and Business Information.

Log In to Your Account

First, ensure you are logged into your My Dealer Jacket account. For detailed instructions, refer to the Logging In to My Dealer Jacket article.

From the Dashboard, select the Registrations tab to access the registrations listing.

Start a New Registration

In the Registrations page, click the Start Registration button to begin a new registration.

Enter Transaction Information

You’ll be directed to a page with five tabs: Vehicle, Buyer, Tag, Insurance, and Issuance.
These tabs must be completed in order.

Vehicle Tab

Select Transaction Type

In the Vehicle tab, select Temporary Tag as the transaction type. Enter the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Click Start for 1.25.

This fee will be deducted from your account credits regardless of whether the issuance is completed, as it covers the VIN inquiry charged by the DMV.

Following the search, the system will display the vehicle's information if a record is found. If no record is found, you will need to enter the vehicle's details manually.

Buyer Tab

Search for the Buyer

After saving the vehicle details, proceed to the Buyer tab. You can search for the buyer using any of the following methods:

Search for buyer in a registration

Complete Buyer Information Based on Search Results

Following the search, the system will display the buyer’s information if a record is found. If no record is found, you will need to enter the buyer’s details manually.

If no record is found, try searching again differently or using a different method. After you exhaust all possible search methods, then you should proceed to enter all the buyer’s information to create a new record.

Creating a New Buyer Record

Depending on if the buyer is an individual or a company, the required fields will vary.

Individual

For an individual, you will need to provide the following details:

  • First name
  • Last name
  • Birth date
  • Sex
  • Physical address
  • Mailing address

Company

For a company, you will need to provide the following details:

  • Company name
  • FEIN
  • FEIN suffix
  • Physical address
  • Mailing address
FEIN Suffix Note

If you receive an error message when entering the FEIN suffix, try increasing the number by 1 (e.g. 2, 3, 4, 5) until the system allows you to continue.

Providing buyer information for Registration

Tag Tab

In the Tag tab, select an available control number. If you do not have any, please refer to Obtaining Temporary Tag Paper for detailed instructions. After completing this field, click Submit to proceed to the Insurance tab. Selecting control number for Registration

In the Insurance tab, specify the insurance details required for the temporary tag: Type of Insurance Verification, Insurance Company Name, and Policy Number. After completing these fields, click Submit to proceed to the Issuance tab. Providing insurance information

In the Issuance tab, carefully review all the entered details. If corrections are needed, click the Edit Pencil Icon next to any section. This will unlock the relevant tab, allowing you to make changes and save them before returning to the Issuance page. Once all details are verified, click Complete to submit the issuance to the DMV system. Issuance details review page

Finalizing the Registration

Upon successful submission, you’ll be directed to the completed issuance. Here, you can view a full summary of the registration and perform the following actions:

Void

The transaction can only be voided on the same day. The deadline for voiding is 11:59 PM EST; after this, the transaction status changes from Approved to Closed and becomes non-cancelable. For more information, refer to Editing or Canceling Temporary Tags.

Click this option to print the temporary tag. The temporary tag must be printed on special waterproof paper. The specific blank paper tag used should be the one corresponding to the Control number chosen in the Tag Tab. For information on acquiring this type of paper, refer to Obtaining Temporary Tag Paper, and for more help on how to print the temporary tag, refer to Printing Temporary Tags.

This will open all related documents for printing except the temp tag, including the Registration, Insurance Affidavit (HSMV 83330), and Temporary Tag Application (HSMV 83091). Completed temp tag page
