Maintaining Security on Your Account

Keeping your My Dealer Jacket account secure is essential for protecting sensitive dealership and customer data. This article will guide you through updating your password, enabling two-factor authentication, and following best practices for maintaining account security.

Steps to Enhance Account Security

Access Your User Profile

Start by logging into your account and navigating to the User Profile section:

  • From the Dashboard, click on Settings at the bottom left.
  • In the Settings menu, under the Your Account section, click on Change Password.

In the Change Password section of the User Profile page, you can update your password.

  • Enter your current password, followed by your new password, and confirm it in the designated fields.
  • Click Save to update your password.
Password Best Practices
  • Use a password that includes a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.
  • Change your password every 3–6 months to reduce the risk of unauthorized access.
  • Avoid using easily guessed information, such as names, birthdays, or simple patterns (e.g., "12345").

Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

For an added layer of security, My Dealer Jacket offers two-factor authentication, which requires a unique code in addition to your password.

  • In the Preferences section of the User Profile page, locate the Two-Factor Authentication option.
  • Toggle on Send code via email to enable two-factor authentication by email.
  • Coming soon: Send code via phone.
Note on Registrations System Access

We will automatically enable this for you if your account has access to the Registrations System. While the access remains, two-factor authentication cannot be disabled. We recommend you configure passkeys for easier and more secure access by following the Setting Up and Using Passkeys guide.

Device Recognition and Login Behavior

  • After you log in with a code, My Dealer Jacket will automatically remember your device for 30 days. During this time, even if you log out, you'll only need your email and password to log back in without needing a code.
  • If you log in from a new device, you'll be prompted to enter a new 2FA code on that device. This action will also cause the previously recognized device to be forgotten, requiring a code the next time you log in on that original device.

With two-factor authentication enabled, you'll receive a unique code each time you log in from a new device, making it significantly harder for unauthorized users to access your account.

Adding New Users to Your Account

My Dealer Jacket allows you to add a total of 50 users to your account at no extra charge. Adding a user is a quick process, enabling your team to access the system with individual credentials, enhancing security and accountability.

Important: Ensure that only qualified individuals are granted access to your dealer account. If someone does not meet the criteria due to criminal background history or lack of proper credentials, it is in your best interest to prevent them from accessing the system. Every action taken in My Dealer Jacket is authenticated, and you are responsible for any activity under your dealership's account. Restricting access to only trusted individuals helps protect both your dealership and your customers.

Important Security Reminders

  • Do Not Share Your Password
Sharing your password with others compromises your account security, especially if your account has access to the Registrations System. Each request made through the Registrations System is authenticated with your personal information, and the DMV holds you responsible for all actions taken from your account. My Dealer Jacket strictly prohibits password sharing, and DMV regulations enforce this rule to ensure accountability. It's essential that we know who did what within the system.

  • Monitor Your Login Activity
Regularly check for any unusual login activity in your account. We notify you via email immediately of any new device which accesses your account. If you notice anything suspicious, change your password immediately and contact support.

  • Keep Your Contact Information Updated
Ensure your email address and phone number in the User Profile are current. This helps us reach you quickly if there's any security issue with your account.
